The sounds of silence

February 7, 2010

One night a week, the doggies have a sleep over at Grandma’s house.  This lets me a) have a meal in peace and b) sleep in the next morning.

A bonus is the fact that they are very, very tired when they come home.  I’m sure Grandma lets them stay up late and eat ice cream in bed.

Here is a video of a snoring Angel and a tongue monster Sketcher.

Mom went shopping!

January 31, 2010

Well, looky here…Sketcher and I knew right away that this goodie bag was for US!

puppy prints!!

There were lots of nommy smells coming from it, so we just KNEW there were foodables in there!

We were half right…

I don't like the look of this...

I don’t know about you guys, but I really prefer to be au naturale, if ya know what I mean.  No collar, no coat…NAKED!  But mom is continually trying to dress us up!!  It’s torment!  So when we saw these two coats, we knew we were in for it.

The good thing is that our most favorite nommy foodable was in there too…Steer Pizzle!  Mom won’t tell us what exactly “pizzle” is, saying something like we would rather not know.  Fine with us!

Sketcher, being the food-obsessed insane-cracker-dog he is, would wear a tu tu if he could get a treat.  Here he is gladly succumbing to the Torture of the Clothes:

gimme me gimme me gimme me gimme me

Coat? What coat?

Me, on the other hand?  I made sure to slink away with my tail looking pathetic to garner the most sympathy.

This is torture

Later.

Of course, the coat didn’t stop me from enjoying my pizzle!  I’m no fool.

Like my passive-aggressive technique of eating my pizzle on mom's laundry pile?

Can’t talk anymore…it’s pizzle time!

Angel on my shoulder

Out damn spot!

January 25, 2010

Ugh.  I have just hit a new personal low.  I am finally trying to get out the numerous spots on my horrible carpets.

As with everything about my place, it was built on the cheap.  Cheap light fixtures, cheap cabinets, and yes…cheap carpet.

With two dogs in the house, carpet has become the bane of my existence.  Sometimes, late at night, I wonder, “What is trapped in the carpet?  What kind of awful mold or microscopic vermin is in there?”

Then I’ll start to feel imaginary bugs on me and…well…let’s just say I wake up very tired.

So, I’ve put this off long enough.  Until I have the money to rip out the carpet en mass and replace with gleaming, sanitary wood floors, I have accepted my fate as Stain Killer.

Here are my weapons of choice:

A four-step process:  spray – sprinkle – scrub – vacuum.

Here is a “during” photo (forgot to take a before, but trust me…they were dark (probably coffee) spots):

And….the after!

Hrm…well…looks like I traded dark spots for white spots.  I suppose my next project will be to do the ENTIRE carpet…which is what I thought I was avoiding by using this “spot treatment.”

I guess “spot treatment” is really code for bleach.

Ignore mom’s ridiculously high, just for Angel, baby voice.

Let there be light!

January 18, 2010

I thought I’d take a break from patting myself on the back to share my miraculous home improvement event!  Yes, that’s right.  I changed a light fixture!  All. By. My. Self.

When I bought my place, I was blessed to have it come with original ceiling lights.  And by “original” I mean hideous and cheap.  As proof, here is the vomit-inducing fixture I was set on replacing.

Blech!

As a bonus, it is not centered over anything.  It is midway between the kitchen, where there is (yes!) another light just like it, and the dining area.  I have no idea why they put it there, other than they were probably drunk.

Because of its off-centered-ness, I wanted to get some kind of track lighting so that I could re-position the light.  And there was no way I was getting any ceiling fixture with a “swag” involved.  So I went to my local Home Depot where they assured me that I could install this myself, even though it involved wires.

I picked up this little number.

Here are the innerds.

And a scant hour later….voila!

Now, you may be saying to yourself, “Hey, that doesn’t look like the image on the box!”

Yes, that’s right.  The image is a bit deceiving.  It looks like there is LOTS of track to twist around and make fun shapes.  Not so.  And, it was not exactly easy to bend, especially by yourself, on a step latter, trying to line it up in the ceiling anchors.

But, all in all, I’m happy with the outcome.

And lucky me, I have many more of these hideous ceiling fixtures to replace.  I might save them all and take them out back to beat the crap out of them when I’m done.

Clean sheet night + a discovery

January 9, 2010

There’s something about clean sheet night that I just love.  Ensconced in clean, fluffy sheets is very comforting.  I have flannel sheets, which I use year round…I love the softness and warmth.

Unfortunately, while washing my sheets yesterday I noticed this:

Sketcher has a little problem.  When he is very very tired, he starts scratching before he lies down…and he won’t stop.  It’s like he’s in a trance.

After about the first dozen or so sets of sheets he’s ruined, I wised up and just began closing my bedroom door when I wasn’t home to supervise.  How this happened, I can only guess…he probably does it during the night.

Sketcher, of course, has plead not guilty.

BRRRRR!!!

January 3, 2010

Hi bloggers!  Angel the Sexy Senior Daschund here!

Where we live, it has been COLD COLD COLD and SNOWY SNOWY SNOWY!  Coming from Arkansas, I’m not used to this weather, but I tough it out.  Unlike my brother, the cold doesn’t bother me and I still LOVE to go outside all the time.

Here is a little clip of me enjoying the fluffy white stuff:

Oops…Mom caught me peeing!  How embarassing.

And here is how my brother amuses himself:

He is a total spaz!

Of course, after running around in the cold and snow, I tend to hit the hay pretty hard.  Here you can hear me snoring away!

Can you believe how cute I am?  Yeah, me neither.

To show our thanks to our Mom for rescuing us, we like to keep her warm on these cold nights.  Here is a quick video of our technique:

Good night bloggers!
